Who this guide is for
This is for anyone who opens WhatsApp Web where other people can see the screen. That includes sales teams sharing a screen in a meeting, owners recording a tutorial, support staff on a video call, and people working in a shop or office. Customers' names and messages stay hidden, but you can keep replying as normal.
Before you start
- Install the InboxCRM Chrome extension and open web.whatsapp.com in Chrome.
- Make sure the InboxCRM sidebar is showing on the left side of WhatsApp Web.
- Keep the WhatsApp Web tab open while you work. The blur only applies inside that tab.
Step by step

Find the eye icon
In the InboxCRM sidebar, look in the "Quick links" group for the eye icon. Hover over it and the label reads "Privacy blur: OFF".

Turn the blur on
Click the eye icon. The blur is applied straight away and the label changes to "Privacy blur: ON". The icon changes to an eye with a line through it.

Check what is hidden
By default InboxCRM blurs profile pictures, contact names, last-message previews in the chat list, message text in the open chat, and photos and videos in the open chat. Names and pictures in the chat header are blurred too.

Hover to peek
Move your mouse over any blurred item to see it clearly. It blurs again when you move the mouse away. This lets you find the right chat without turning the blur off.

Choose exactly what to blur
Click the gear icon ("Settings") at the bottom of the sidebar and expand "Privacy Settings". Use the switches "Hide Profile Pictures", "Hide Contact Names", "Hide Last Message Preview", "Hide All Messages in Chat" and "Hide Media Preview" to pick what gets blurred.

Use the master switch if you prefer
"Enable privacy mode" in the same section does the same job as the eye icon. While it is off, nothing is blurred, even if the individual switches are on.

Turn the blur off
When you finish sharing your screen, click the eye icon again, or switch off "Enable privacy mode". The label goes back to "Privacy blur: OFF".
Tips
- Turn the blur on before you start a screen share or recording, not after. Your chat list is visible the moment you share.
- Keep your mouse away from the chat list while sharing. Hovering reveals the item under the pointer to everyone watching.
- If you only want to hide media, switch off the other options and leave "Hide Media Preview" on.
- Your blur choices are saved in the browser, so they stay the same the next time you open WhatsApp Web.
Troubleshooting
I clicked the eye icon but nothing is blurred.
Open "Settings", expand "Privacy Settings" and check that at least one "Hide" switch is on. If they are on, reload the WhatsApp Web tab so the extension can apply the blur again.
Something is still readable while the blur is on.
Check that your mouse is not resting on it, because hovering reveals blurred items. The blur covers the chat list, the chat header and messages in the open chat. Other parts of WhatsApp Web, such as the contact info panel, may not be blurred, so avoid opening them while sharing.
I can't find the eye icon in the sidebar.
Scroll the sidebar if your window is short. The eye icon sits in the "Quick links" group with Dashboard and Notifications. You can also control the blur from "Settings" > "Privacy Settings" > "Enable privacy mode".
Questions
Does privacy blur change anything for the person I am chatting with?
No. The blur only changes how WhatsApp Web looks on your screen. Your messages, chats and contacts are not changed, and nothing is sent to anyone.
Can I still type and reply while the blur is on?
Yes. You can open chats, type and send messages as normal. Only the display is blurred.
Does it hide my screen from screenshots or other apps?
No. It is a visual blur inside the WhatsApp Web tab. Anyone who can see your screen can still see an item while your mouse is over it.

Tips
